Back in early May I posted about a painting contest over at Fury’s Finest discord. That contest was to paint up a leader for any affiliation, I chose She-Hulk. I don’t have a strong affinity for the character, she seemed like bending to the early “girl power” trends of the early 80’s, and I was nearly done with Comic-books by that time, having found Dungeons&Dragons a couple of years earlier. What I do like about the character for the game is she gives us a leader for the A-force, and I have 4 other members just from the Core Box and other sets I picked up along the way; she also adds to Avengers and S.H.E.I.L.D.
A “picture of the model’s state before the contest began” was required, and since I though a picture of an unopened box would be boring, I set out the sprue and box contents:
I tried to go a lighter shade of green than her bigger cousin, Bruce, with more yellow-greens and a yellow ink wash to tie all the constant together. I also opted to go with a reddish girder, as many building I-beams are coated with anti-corrosive treatments to extend their lifetime, especially if they are not in a place where they can be regularly painted (like bridges and other structures).
And my small nod to social justice, which seems sorely missing in America today, I free-hand painted a Nike “swoosh” onto each sneaker. I picked Nike for two reasons. One I love their shoes and pretty much wear my Nikes everyday at work. And two, Nike stood with Colin Kaepernick when the NFL black-balled him for protesting racism in America. It’s my little “Fuck you” to all new-Nazis now stealing the conservative mantel – especially those evangelic types!
